The phenomenon ( or the mindset) is prevalent right from historic times and ages- Caste system is a glaring example (it is also based on pedigree). If you are an IAS,IPS, IFS( Foreign service ),IRS - u have the same attitude and approach. I saw it as recently as of yesterday in of my batchmates from IRES ( Indian Railway Engineering services) who are the apex engineering service body , pass out of Railway Staff college, alma mater of Railways have their email ids as : name_ires@xyz.com , the "ires" is a signature to connect with similar pedigree. All were heavily relying on few selected organsiations and these org used to visit campus and recruit , Year on Year. Get the statistics and you will be surprised at the percentage of new org visit and recruit. Day 0 to Day 1-all placements were over. The moment there has been a scenario of Day-2-3-4 , the fragile placement initiatives by these top rung institutes are out of the closet. I will suggest, this is the time when one needs to reach out and bring in thought leadership in placements. R we grooming them for being managers or leaders? If Leaders, we can count on our fingers, how many Incubation cells are there in our management schools . Can we look at incubation cells and align them with Business houses or organisations. Alma mater often becomes a source of data to put individuals into capability slots. But I feel in the longer run, it may not matter much as long as u prove urself. And going by the current levels of reservation and all that will IITs and IIMs keep churning out the cream in the same proportion in years to come? As in when I meet up with a so-called IIM grad, today there is a 50% chance that he has a CAT score much less than mine! He competed in a different segment even for the admission process! So I think alma mater branding is just a bubble...if the brand promise isnt delivered, the bubble just gets pricked! Up fiscal measures when monetary policies will not be effective. Directionless Fisc. measures however do nobody any good except for generating temporary employment. India no doubt needs to invest in Infra if it needs to sustain its growth but where will it find that $450b that IMF has estimated to be the requirement(Dont turn a blind eye to our fisc. deficit). <BR/>China&#39;s problem is two pronged.<BR/>1&gt; It has already done a lot for Infra in the cities while rural areas still languish.<BR/>2&gt; chinese economy is majorly dependent on exports n quite a sizable population works in export based industries.
